Disgrifiad

Dyddiad: 21 February. 1917.

Adysgrif:
FIGHTING THE SUBMARINES.

The Cunard liner Lycia, which was previously reported lost, fought a German submarine for twenty minutes or more before the ship went down. It was a gallant fight, and we hope to hear of more such. Every day German submarines set upon innocent vessels and destroy them. They have bigger guns than they had in the early days, and are much speedier in the water. For a vessel to put up a fight is to run some chance of escape, for the longer the fight the greater is the possibility of assistance being gained from destroyers or patrol boats, of which the Allies have so many.
Despite the submarine danger, over a hundred ships entered French ports daily last week, so that it is clear they were not frightened from carrying out their duty.

Ffynhonnell: "FIGHTING THE SUBMARINES." Leeds Mercury. 21 February. 1917. 2.
