FIVE MORE BRITISH STEAMERS SUNK.

THE MANTOLA TORPEDOED.

The losses to British shipping reported during the week-end, five Steamers arid four fishing vessels, represent a gross tonnage of about 20 000 tons. Among the British vessels is the new liner Mantola, which was carrying passengers. Seven members of the crew (lascars) are missing. Two more Norwegian vessels have been sunk, and 12 of the crew of one of these vessels are missing.

Mantola (steamer), owned by the British India Steam Navigation Company, has been torpedoed. The liner, which was built at Glasgow only last year, was outward bound for India, and carried a number of passengers, all of whom were saved. Seven lascars, members of the crew, are missing…. Beechtree (steamer), of Cardiff. The vessel was torpedoed, and sank in seven minutes; crew of fifteen landed… 1277

Japanese Prince (steamer), of Newcastle. Sunk by an enemy submarine, which torpedoed her in the English Channel without warning. The torpedo was seen, but not the submarine. The crew of 75, including about 30 Americans, were saved… 4876

The pilot steamer Vlissingen, has returned to Amsterdam from the North Hinder Lightship with Captain Hambre and the crew of 2 of the Norwegian steamer Hans Kinck, which was torpedoed by a German submarine. It appears (says Reuter) that the submarine blew up the Hans Kinck by bombs.
