A statement of receipts and payments for Cardiff Municipal Musical Society, dated 1 April 1944. The statement covers the period since the society was formed, January 1943, to 31 March 1944. This statement shows that the proceeds from a concert organised by the Society on 16 November 1943 were donated to Cardiff Royal Infirmary as a grant.

Cardiff Municipal Musical Society was formed in 1943 by employees of the Cardiff Corporation whose objective was to foster music and drama in the city. It was initially composed of four sections: choir, operatic, orchestra and drama group. Members of the society paid a subscription. The choral section gave its first concert in May 1943 with a production of Mendelssohn's 'Elijah'. The operatic section held its first production in 1945 at the Prince of Wales Theatre, St Mary Street, with a performance of 'The Mikado'. The society held performances at this venue until 1957, when it moved to the New Theatre where it then performed over thirty shows before moving to the Sherman Theatre. The name Cardiff Municipal Operatic Society was adopted in 1980. The Society was active up to 2012.
