Letter from John Sainz de la Maza to Mr. Philips, in which he states that he found English hard to learn, but that he can now speak it better than his own language. He says that it is colder where he is (Larchfield Academy, Dunbartonshirte, Scotland) than in Pelotas. He also shares that they playa lot of football where he is, and that he is having piano lessons. He sends love to all the boys and says he will be glad to have photographs of Mr and Mrs. Phillips. The page with the address has a note from Francisca Maz[a]. in a mix of Portuguese and Spanish, in which she states that she is sending this letter of her son, that came from England.

My dear Sir,
I hope you and Mrs. Phillips are well. I am here quite well. I found English very hard to learn it at first but I can now speak it better than my own language. I had shacking on ice for two times. The cold here is greater than that of Pelotas. We play here football very much. I am learning Latin and having lessons on the piano. My loves to all your boys. I will be very glad to have your and Mrs. Philips photographs.
