Disgrifiad

The residents of The Edwinsford Mansion used the lakes for fishing and on occasions, rowing across both lakes to St Michael's Church. The owners are long gone but the remains of a large boathouse can be found by the lower lake, near the point, where a leat flows out under the B4302. The boat house is now about 100ft from the water's edge, the distance filled with marsh and fallen trees. Up until the 1950's, the lakes were maintained and a channel to the boathouse, dug out to ensure that two boats could be used. The roof and walls have gone but the foundations and parts of the jetty remain. The plan was like the letter E with side walls 30ft long and the end wall 24ft wide. The jetty was reached through a door in the end wall and the old uprights for the planking still stuck out from the mud, a tribute to the quality of the materials used.
