Letter from Maria das Dores Florinal to Thomas B. Phillips, in which she acknowledges the death of her nephew, and shares her grief. She acknowledges she has not been writing as much as she wishes, but states that it has not been possible. She says they do not have any news, and asks for Januaria to write to her and tell her how she has been adapting to Rio Grande. She sends regards to her nephews, nieces, and to D. Suzana from the whole family.

Tenho prezente sua carta, a qual veio tao tris temente dar-nos a faustosa noticia de meu sempre querido e chorado Sobrinho, nossos coracoes cobrirao-se de luto pela tao sen ceivel morte que veio em noscos coracoes uma saudades sem concollo, mas como hade ser Deos assim quer devemos concollar, corte co que tenho faltado com o meu dever de escrever lhe mas nao metem sido possivel.

Dezejo que tenha passado bem assim como a Januaria e meus queridos sobrinhos e sobrinhas a D. Suzana, nos por ca vamos passan do sem novidades algumas, a Januaria que me escreva e manda-me dizer como como tem se dado no Rio Grande, se tirar o retrato das menino pesco-lhe que nao sequeca de mim as saudades da Uine cada vez seavivao mas em meu peito, rogo-lhe a …, recomendar-me a D. Suzana e a Januaria a toda a familia o assim como aceitem de todos desta sua caza que as minhas he como Vocemesse sabe.
