Row of Bee Boles in barn wall, Goetre Isaf
Disgrifiadau
Row of Bee Boles in internal barn wall, Goetre Isaf.
A bee bole is a cavity in a wall is which a skep was put for keeping bees. These were a practical way of protecting the skeps (containing the bees) from weather before the invention of modern bee hives.
At Goetre Isaf the bee boles are both in a row in an outside wall and in the inside wall of an outbuilding. These inside the barn are thought to have been used for over-wintering the bee colonies.
