St. Peter's Church, Carmarthen, medieval monument

Disgrifiadau

St. Peter's Church, Carmarthen, view of medieval funerary monument.
St Peter's Church is a medieval church of stone construction. There is a thirteenth century tower, nave and chancel, built on the foundations of an earlier church. The south aisle and porch are possibly of late fourteenth century date and the north transept is of late fourteenth century or later date with a former charnel house adjoining it. There is also a fourteenth century piscina. Alterations, including some by John Nash, were carried out in the late eighteenth century and the church was restored in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The three wallpaintings in the church are depictions of tables of benefactions, dated 1731 and with fading gilt lettering.
The churchyard contains a number of interesting tombs and headstones of varying styles.
