Pittsburgh, Pa.-St David's Day was celebrated again this year atthe Schenley Hotel, Pittsburgh on Saturday night March I under tho sponsorship of fre Welsh Society,Leslie J. Reese, hesident. Singng was in the charge of the versatile W. E. Morgan, Vice-President of the society. The opening statement was given by Leslie J. Reese. The well-known baritong Robert Johns and his talented daughter, Miss Viviaq sang several times. lvlrs. Johns was at the piano.
Several of the old Welsh hymns were sung under the direction of W. E. Morgan with Miss Jane Davies, music teacher, at the piano. This year the guest speaker was Dr. Brinley Thomas, McGill University, Montreal, Can. We had a valuable lecture from him about Great Britain and the United States in war time.
On Sunday, March 2 in Trinity Cathedral the annual Gymanfa Ganu was held in the afternoon and evening. The conductor was Ornan Morgan, leader of Parti Meibion Clwrleroi [Charleroi male voice choir] which had a very important place in the Gymanfa. The soloists were W. Oddert and J. Hoydes with Harry McConn at the piano. Organist for the Gymanfa was Dr. Alfred Hamer, the talented organist of Trinrty Catherdral. Dr. Thomas spoke briefly and the Charleroi boys sang very skillfully.
Between the sessions we went to the dining room to satisry the needs of the body. The evening session began at half past s&ven. The chairman was W. E. Morgan. The devotions were given by the Rev. R. E. Williams. Many of the old hymns were sung with conviction. The choir sang several selections and there was a effective sermon by Dean Moor of Trinity Cathedral. At 3:30 in the afternoon WWSW broadcast a progftm by this writer. Its subject was "St. David" Mrs. Lloyd Hargest sang enchantingly accompanied by Miss Dorothy Morgan on the piano.-R. E. \Milliarns.
