Carmel Sund$chool picnic-Man Welsh on Holiday*The Gorsedd of Bards and Welsh Women Hold ing Festidl-Notes.
ByDeiniol Arfon.
Pittsburgh, Pa. Today, Thursday, July 29, members of the Carmel church Sunday school in Oakland are having their annual picnic in Highland Park, and to make transportation easy, there will be big busses to carry the children and old people to the lakeside where there is a pleasant glade with plenty of shade. It is stange that the elderly continue to take interest in these picnics, not only to play and prance like mountain ponies butthey can socialize with one another and chat aboutthe old days. Doubtless there will some present who have spent the sunmer in Wales and some who have attended every picnic held by Carmel Sunday school. It is also sure that some will miss taking part in the sports.
John Lloyd and George B. Jones, the two chief officers in the Sunday schoolo will take care that everyone has an er{oyable time. The committee has arranged an interesting program. We are glad to say that the Sunday school is fairly prosperous and everything will go well.
On Wednesday, August 4, the cheerful Welshman and well-known banker, J. R. Jones, East End, and his loving wife, along with their daughter, Miss Margaret Jones, are starting on their surnmer holiday, and it is natural for those who have responsible jobs, fie holiday will be very pleasant. There will be at the seaside in Asbury Parlc N. J. and will stay at the Dnrid Hall, Rachel Lloyd Jenkins' home for Welsh people. The family expects to meet Ben Jones, the brother of J. R. Jones who is a well-known teacher in a London day school. We understand that he is on holiday in Canad4 and he will meet his borther and family in Asbury Park where they will have fun on the beach. Blessings on them all. May they be refreshed in body and in mind.
Miss Margaret Jones, East End paid a visit to the beautiful and healthful village of Pahnyr4 Ohio where she has relations, namely Mr. and Mrs. Owen Jones and Mrs. Edward Jones and her mother, Mrs. Foulkes.
About August 8, John Williams and his son, Griff. WitlianT, ivtorris P. V/illiams and daughter will begin their motor trip- They will spend a few days in Niagara Falls, N. Y. and then they will drive io Utica, N. y. John and Morris are known to many in Utica" it is difficult to say how long their stay will be, but I understand that they intend to go to Granville, N. Y. where the boys of Ffestiniog will care of them while there are there. We hope they will have a good journey and pleasant weather for travelling.
The annual picnic of the American Gorsedd of Bards and Welsh Women's Club will be held in Schenley Park on August 21. An interesting and excellent time will be ha{ as usual. The program is not out ye! but we will take care to give a notice or two when the details come to hand.
We had a card from the warmhearted Welshman J. R. Edwards and family saying that they are enjoying the pure sea btwzes in Atlantic Crty. They intend to visit their old stomping grounds in Slatingtoa Pa. to finish their vacation. I trustthat they have a good time in that pleasant and healthful place where it is
certain that the old slate merchant will enjoy angling in the crystal-clear strams around the village. I hope that he is more of a master to the fish than the last time and ttrat he will catch the slippery hout. Well, hurry home, dear family, so we can hearthe stories about old friends.
In a letter I received from my cousin, Thomas D. Williams, Stamford, Conn, he says he has returned
home safely and well after motoring ftom Slatington and Wilkes-Barre. I understand that his sister, Hannah and daughter Gwladys, were in the car, but Gwladys will be staying in Wilkes-Barre until the end of July. Tom will be motoring back to Wilkes-Barre to pick her up. So you see that the son of a carpenter from Llidiartygwyn is a champion motorist. It takes shength and lots of patience to travel with a motor these days, but credit should be given to Hannah aod Gwladys for grving directions from the back seat.
I believe that I have covered all the holidaymakers, at least all those I know about. It appears dark for this old reporter to get away from home becauso there is not much spare time and because the market does not permit it, say the authorities.
Nevertheless, I will take comfort that others are having holidays and I won't grumble. But, if there are any signs of atrip, I will jump offsomewhere for a few days.
It was wonderful to receive a card &om Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davies saymg that they had a pleasant time inBangor, Pa.
I will be glad to have notes from old friends to this old reporter from Pittsburgh. Regards to you all and blessings on you.
