Disgrifiad

The farmhouse of Moel Ynys has been important to the history of Ynyslas. First adopted as a ferryhouse or inn to accommodate travelers when caught out by weather or tide times. The farmstead of Moel Ynys is shown on T Lewis' 1790 map of the Cors Fochno. It's use then changed slightly when taken under the ownership of Thomas Savin who intended to use the inn as a hotel for the new Ynyslas Estate, at this time two small rectangular fields are also depicted as part of Moel Ynys.

The liquidation of the Ynyslas Estate Company, 1910, lead Moel Ynys to be placed for auction and he farm was sold as a single property.

The suction notes described Moel Ynys as having 'a handsome portico at the front entrance... basement, wine cellar, ground floor entrance hall, spacious and well-lighted drawing room, dining room with bay window, kitchen, scullery and pantry.
Six bedrooms,a sitting room, a lavatory and wc on the first floor. Two bedrooms on the Top floor.

The outbuildings included 'a wash house (fitted with household copper, also water pump, and cistern with a storeroom over'.

In a reflection of it's early inn days it still retained a 'two-stall stable, and loose box with hay loft over, saddle room, coal house and coach house, all stone built and slated and a timber built coachhouse or motor garage roofed with corrugated iron sheets.

Finally it was suggested that between the house and the road there is a pretty croquet or tennis lawn and on the southside a productive walled in kitchen garden'.

During the period that MOS EE AA Ynyslas was operational, local residents suggest that the house was used as a Sergeants' mess and for accommodation. For more about the sergeants mess: http://www.peoplescollectionwales.co.uk/items/384822

The farmhouse was used as a location (the home of clergyman Eurof Daniel) for part of an episode of Y Gwyll / Hinterland, the S4C detective thriller series set in Ceredigion.
