My Dear Sir

My last letter will have apprised
you of my approval of the means taken for
securing the safety and attendance of those
witnesses whose attendance might be reasonably
doubted without such measures of precaution. With
respect to the number in addition to those on the
back of the Indictment I say to you what I write also
to Mr Phillips that without prescribing any stint
I must trust to his and your discretion not to
overload it.

respecting the delivery of the list of witnesses I am

thankful for them but the only doubt I feel upon
the subject is the respect I have for your opinion
and learning that that opinion is unfavourable
I conceive that the three Examiners and myself are
competent to prove distinctly that a correct copy of
the printed list of witnesses now in my hands and which
was made as original was served on each of the 12 prisoners
by me in their presence with the amendments and
additions in ink which appear in that original, and
and moreover that each of the four Examiners can prove
that there was no other addition or amendment in
any one of the lists so delivered that such as are
in the original - I except of course as I had before
stated the name of each prisoner to whom the list was
delivered inserted in the blank in the Heading which
is really no part of the list. This is what I feel I can
