Dear Phelps
I have done as you requested at the
Monmouthshire - All remained quiet here last night
& is so this morning - I was going to Pill this morning
to ascertain how things were up above if I could but
met Dick Lewis who said he was one of the first to
give information to the Mayor on Saturday & has been
down here since - that he advised the Waterloo men to
get out of the way on Sunday which he has no doubt they
did as he did not observe any of them among the crowd,
that he expects a team down this evening regular work
tomorrow. he knows nothing about the Coronation &-
I have no time to go to Pill now before Post - but suppose
it will be satisfactory to you to know this much, if this
should reach you at Bath - 20 men were either killed on the
spot or died in the course of the day & Evening. The Mayor

was wounded in 2 or 3 places but not seriously I believe
A sergeant of the 45th in 2. places from bullets. Morgan the
Draper is doing pretty well I understand - his wound was
that mortal by many yesterday - I have no time to write anything more. I expect you by the packet, but
it will for Mrs Phelps in your absence.
