Revd James Coles
Sir,
I consider it necessary to
inform you of the particulars of the informa-
tion As stated to me by Ann Thomas the
Landlady of the Three Horse Shoes, Pie Corner
She being the evidence against a man by
the name of Saunders now in Custody
as there may be some attempt made
by the woman to prevaricate if I am
not present, About 1 o'Clock on Mon
-day I went to Pie Corner to make Observ-
-ations There was several men in Thomas
House that ran away from Newport
I went into a small room & the

Tudalen 2:
Landlady came to me, she told me
there was a man on the Bed that she
should be glad to know his name I
asked her why, she said because he made
himself as if he was a ganger among
them & he stood by another man who
guarded the door to prevent the
Mob to stop [?] the man saying we do
we do
not know how maney will be wanted
We should have been down maney hours
ago. The prisoner was next seen by the
Landlady on her return from Newport he
Call_d in the House, & while there he
was personally addressed by the mob
with the words you have led us
like sheep or cattle to the slaughter
the prisoner said it was very badly
managed & he would be ashamed

to show his face after that day he then
requested a bed & had it & he was in
high state of excitement during the
evening I went with the police & appre
hended him in Bed next morning -
By information I found he was from
Aberchyain [*]I was there yesterday & I find
he is a profligate Man his Master
said he left home late Tuesday week.
He saw him in Nantyglo on Sunday

[* Abersychan?]

If Zephaniah Williams is taken perhaps
the following evidence will be of use I know
a man that will prove seeing him & Frost
forming the mob in ranks in the park
Frost marched in front Williams last
of all, & evidence was forced forward
by him, Williams taking care that no
one should desert the mob.
