on Friday night before the Riots
__as she was going to the Shop she met

who asked her if he could have a Lodging.
at his House and
my wife said he could. I worked
at night in getting
thro a fault. I went to work

home about 5 in the mor-ng
I did not see Mr Frost or
know more about him
than what my wife told me.
I did not see Frost till Sunday
morning about 8 O' clock
I merely said good morning
& said nothing more this
was the day before the Riots
My Wife told me a Man
from the North had come
there the night before (Saturday)

Frost slept there that night
I saw a great Crowd of people
at the Coach & Horses on the
Sunday Evening - I did not

know any one it was

I should ^ there were two or three
hundred people standing in
groups around Blackwood
Coach & Horses - I did not
know any one there
they appeared all strangers
This was about 3 or 4 O'clock
in the afternoon. I did not
stop there 10 Minutes. I went
home again. The men were
not then armed - I was at home
all night - No one came to
my House. I had joined the
Chartists Club at the Coach &
Horses for a 2 Months or
more but gave it up
about a Month or more

I paid it to the Secretary one Owen
Davies a Shoemaker. I never
had a Ticket- They used to take
in two Newspapers the Northern Star
and the Charter.
Sometime after the meeting
at Dukes Town I saw Jones
& Edwards of Pontypool they
were in a gig Jones stood up &
spoke and said they were going
to have a Meeting tomorrow -
I understood it to be a Chartists
Meeting it was outside
opposite the Coach & Horses
This was a good while
^ before the Riots - I saw
Frost at the Coach & Horses
about a Month before the Riots
He stood upon a Chair or something
at the Door of the Coach & Horses.
and spoke to a large number
of people who were assembled
there - He said as well as
I can remember that
he came there to give up his

must depend upon themselves
to get the Charter - That he
would not give it up as
long as the people wo:-d stand
by him. That he was going
on to the Blaina but whether
that night or the next I cannot
say. The first time I ever saw
Frost was at a Meeting at
Blackwood on last Whitmonday -
There were thousands of people
The people saw there were 30,000
there Frost spoke
and Jones the Watchmaker were
there they both spoke but there
was so much noise I could
not hear what was said. I
never saw Frost but at the
Blackwood Meeting -
he was speaking in front of the
Coach & Horses kept by Richard Pugh
On the Sunday mo-ng before the
Riots my Wife told me she had often
bought Shop Goods at Frosts House & knew
