but they would bid them defiance and he was quite sure
they would get the Charter within a month - on Thursday
the 31st Octr Tovey saw Frost, Williams and Jones at the
Coach & Horses - he spoke upon various points of the Charter
that there was no harm to break through bad Laws and that
it was there duty to break them - William Davies was at
the Meeting on the Wednesday the 30th Octr and had acted
as Treasurer for the 3 months proceeding - he used to read
various papers - such as the Charter, Northern Star and
other such papers, on the 1st Novr about one o'clock in the
afternoon he went to the Coach & Horses where he saw a great
many persons come who went upstairs to the lodge room - he
saw Frost and Williams amongst them. He did not go upstairs
as he was told the meeting was a meeting of Delegates from
the several Chartist Lodges, he thinks there would have
been 50 present. He left the Coach & Horses before the
Meeting broke up and went home. About 6 o'clock in the
afternoon he went there again - the Meeting was then broken
up. He was in the tap room and Frost came out of the
parlour and asked him if he could have a Bed at his
house - he, Tovey said that he might but the accommodations
would be rough which Frost said he did not mind. Frost
then returned into the parlour and between 9 & 10 o'clock
leftthe Coach & Horses with Tovey and slept at Tovey's
house that night. Frost remained at Tovey's house the
whole of the next day until night fall. On Saturday morning
Frost told him the meeting the day before was a meeting
of Delegates and that he was going to take the men down
to Newport on Sunday night and that every man that
would go under his directions would be rewarded. Frost
said that it had been agreed upon at the meeting the
day before and that all the men were to go armed as
best they could. Frost further said that they would
take the arms at the Workhouse and when they got
