of Monmouth Coal Contractor to Mr Phelps states -
I know Mr Aaron Crosfield of Newport Ironmonger and Vender
of Powder for the last 6 years. I am in the habit of using large
quantities of Powder in blasting the Coal - I use about 500lbs a
month - I have several times purchased quantities of Mr
Crosfield - about 500lbs at a time - Powder is used in all the
Collieries for the purpose of blasting - And it was notorious among
the Colliers in the hills that Mr Crosfield sold quantities of powder
and had a Warehouse at Newport -
