John Harford I am a collier working at the
Rock Works, I attended a meeting at the Lodge
once on Sunday ev[enin]g the 3rd of No[vembe]r I was at home
and about 6 Oclock a mob came to my house
and forced me to go with them by threats,
I had a sword belonging to the Odd Fellows
Lodge (I being an inside Tiler) which they
forced me to carry. I came on with them
until we reached the Welch Oak, when we
stopped for 2 or 3 hours, from thence we went to
the Cefn. where I had a pint of beer. a young
man whom I do not know came on horseback
& told the men that Mr Frost was waiting
for them in a lane adjoining. we then went
down I there saw Mr. Frost the man & asked Mr
F[rost] if they had better return, to which he
said no you had better not return but come
on to the Poor House, then they would take

where I remain for 3 or 4 hours. on the Saturday night
(the 2nd of Nov[embe]r) Then as I was going to the lodge ab[ou]t. 7 oClock heard
in the evening W[illia]m. Davies telling a Gentleman that Mr Frost was
at Francis Tovey's

I am directed by the Guardians of the Newport Union to inform you
that it is necessary that you should name a person in the Parish to which you
belong, to receive from me your Weekly Relief, (being [blank] )
and you are required to furnish me with a Certificate of your health and circumstances
every Three Months, signed by the Clergyman or Churchwarden of the Parish in which you
