William Adams of the parish of Bassaleg in
the county of Monmouthshire states - I
am Park Keeper to Sir Charles Morgan of Tredegar -
on the 4th Nov[embe].r last very near 10 o'clock in the
morning I was standing by the Lodge of Tredegar House
which is along side of the Turnpike Road leading from
Newport to Cardiff - I saw a number of people - I saw I
should think 2 or 300 persons - I asked some of them as
they passed me by what was the matter but they gave
me no answer - one man came along walking hard
he was holding a handkerchief over his left eye as he
passed by me I asked him "What was the matter at Newport
as they was all running away" he pulled the hand
kerchief from his face and I immediately said "How
d'ye do "I said this because I knew then who he was it was John Frost - he
muttered some answer which I did not understand - and he
passed on in the direction of Cardiff - I turned
my horse round and took after him to see where he did
go to - he turned through a gate into a field at the corner
of the new Park and went into a Brake in the field
and there I lost him - he was dressed in a Blue rough coat
with pockets at the side - a sort of frock coat a Black Hat -
the place where I saw Frost
is about 23/4 miles from Newport. I am sure it was Frost
I have known him very near 30 years.
