Regina v Gwilliam [Gwillam]
Lewis Lloyd - I am an Engineer at
Mr Cords' Factory in Newport -
I know the Prisoner Gwillam
On Sunday the 3d Novr instant
^ I was out at the Kevan [Cefn] - about three
Miles from Newport dining there -
I returned home at 7 o'Clock in
the Evening - in company with
Brittan Francis - on Wednesday
the 30th October - Prisr came to my
House about 10 o'Clock - I was going
to bed - I
About this time I heard
Some one opening the door - the
door had been merely closed and
a chair put against it - I
was in the habit of doing this -
I only occupy an
apartment in the House - Thomas
Williams was out and the door was
fastened in this way to enable him to
come in without disturbing others
in the House - Thomas Williams
came to the bottom of the stairs and
said "Lloyd, come down stairs, I
want you - I said "What do
you want" - He said "Come
down for a bit - I want you" -
I went down Stairs - I saw Thomas
Williams and Gwillam the Prisoner
there - in Thomas Williams Apartment

Tudalen 2:
I said to Gwillam what do you want?
He said "Sit down a bit"
I sat down - he said "I am come
here on purpose to give you Some
information of what you must
do tomorrow"- I asked him what
it was He said - that he had heard
that night from good authority that
there was likely to be a break out
amongst the chartists or that
the Chartists were going to rise or
some thing to that effect. I
asked him who had told him -
He refused to tell me - But said
you may depend upon it that it
is the Case - I want you to go to the
presiding Officers of our Lodge - and
to be sure and get them to meet
together and to draw the Money
out of the Bank to morrow - I
asked him the reason for doing this -
He said he would tell me another
time - but I might rest satisfied
there would be a break out -
and that we were in danger
of losing our Money at the Bank
so he would advise us by all means
to get it out - and to do my best
to get it to morrow - I told him I
would acquaint all the officers
the first thing tomorrow -
I lef[t] the Prisoner & Williams [Tho. Williams]together
and went to bed - on the following Morning
I went to the Landlord of the House
where the Lodge is held and informed
him what I had heard and

told him to inform the Secretary - and to
meet me and the other officers with
the key of the Box - I also told the
other two presiding officers - I don't
remember any conversation with Prisoner
and [T.]Williams about the robbing the banks
or taking the arms from the poor
House nor any thing but what I have
already stated - I have seen Williams
making bullets - I said halloa what are
you after - this was before the Riots -
I can't tell the day - I think it was
about a week before the Riots- I
also saw the mould in which he made
them - He made one at a time - I
I know Williams was a Chartist - I
I do not recollect seeing Williams show
the bullets to Prisoner -
Williams had a pike in his possession -
I do not recollect his Showing the pike
to Prisoner - I went
to the Bush on the Thursday night after the
conversation with Prisoner - I saw
Prisr. there - He was a Member of the
Society - said to Prisr. that I had
convened the meeting in
pursuance of what he had stated to
me and that he should then inform
me and that he should then inform
them what he thought proper about
it and his reasons for wanting to
draw the Money out of the Bank.
Prisoner said that his only reason was that he
had heard that all the Clubs in the Town
were going to draw their Money out of the
Banks because they were weak and likely to break - Prisoner made this Statement
