William T. H. Phelps of Newport in the County of
Mon : Atty at law maketh oath & saith that on the
day of [ blank] last past he personally George Essex of
Pontypool in the same County who is a necessary and material witness in the above prosecution with a true Copy of the Spa
requiring
hereunto annexed - And this Deponent further saith
that the sd George Essex hath as this Dept hath been informed & believes
left the Town of Monmouth
& is at present in Bristol under the idea that he should not
be required as such Witness for some days - And Dept further
saith that to the best of his knowledge & belief the Trial
of the sd John Lewis Llewellin cannot safely be proceeded
in, in the absence of the sd George Essex
