Disgrifiad
Trawsgrifiad:
My dearest Lucy
A brief respite and I am trying amidst scenes unimaginable to write you something. We have been sitting in the trenches, and the next few days will be momentous. The 2nd Batt has had a rough time here only a few remaining. At present I am unable to tell you anything, but it is roughing it with a vengeance- sleeping out in the wet and where you can – the nights are awfully cold. If I can, I will send you a field postcard, but there is no time with the way we are being moved about and the marching is tiring. If you are sending any cakes, will you make a large cake and not the ginger – like the one you first made, the ginger cakes seem to crumble away in the transit – the cake with raisins and currants would be nice or only the Queen cakes – they were always appreciated. I had one lovely billet on a farm – the people were very kind but the two other farms were not good. In one I slept in a barn with another sub. We had a broody hen between us and behind a partition the farm house. Our transport hadn’t come up and I preferred that to a tiled floor without any covering whatsoever. We are doing well. Ask Lillie to send me some a cake, she can buy one, or better get Buzzards to post one – it will sure to be good.
Fondest love to all
Your loving brother
Harry
