Disgrifiad

This is an audio clip from an interview with Shirley Harris in which Shirley discusses the Hanukkah performances. In her interview, Shirley discusses her war-time experiences of rationing and air-raids whilst growing up Cardiff in the Second World War. She draws particular attention to her father's role in the Observer Corps, tracking enemy aircraft flying over Cardiff during the course of the war. She also speaks about her time spent organising three Hanukkah plays that took part as part of the Cardiff Reform Synagogue's celebration of this festival, and of her search for life-sized candles that could be used as props for the plays. Finally, Shirley reminisces about her father's chain of greengrocers that were located in a number of valleys towns and remembers how groceries like cheese, butter and sugar were packaged and sold.
