The two drawings are (VI and VII) the outlines of two Roman temporary marching camps. These were built by the Roman Army as it marched through Britain. These sites were built by the soldiers and were used to train the troops in military practice. Camps such as these tend to cluster around the (later) permanent Civilian fort. It might be suggested that these marching camps, similar in shape to the classic playing card shape of the fort, were built to practice the fort building skills of the troops.
