Eric Evans was born in the Neath Valley in 1924, before the family moved to Ammanford. Inspired by a talk given at school in Ammanford, Eric joined the Miles Aircraft Factory near Reading to work on the aircraft production line. After volunteering for aircrew duties with the RAF in 1942, he was posted to Canada to train as a Bomb-Aimer under the British and Commonwealth Air Training Plan. In 1944 Eric joined 99 Squadron in India which was equipped with the Consolidator B.24 Liberator, personally flying many operational bombing sorties during the Burma campaign. Shortly before the end of his operational tour, Eric’s aircraft was shot down and he was badly injured. Eric spent the remainder of the war recovering from his injuries. Post-war Eric became a jeweller and watch repairer in Swansea and today lives in Llanelli.

Edward Evans was born in Gorseinon in 1964 and lived his early life in Llanelli. Uninterested by school, Edward was inspired by a newspaper advert to join the Royal Navy and began his training at HMS Raleigh as a Junior Seaman (Operator) (2nd Class) in May 1981. He subsequently served in HMS Renown before passing the Admiralty Interview Board for Officer selection in 1984 and entering Britannia Royal Naval College in 1985. Following completion of specialisation training as a Supply and Secretariat Officer in 1986, Edward subsequently served in a number of sea and shore appointments achieving promotion to the rank of Co mmander. His final appointment before retiring from active service was as the Commanding Officer of HMS Temeraire, a Portsmouth shore establishment. He then retired to live at his family home in Hilton, Cumbria.

Michael Evans was born in Morriston Hospital in 1985. He lived in Llanelli for the first six months of his life, and then moved to various locations dependent upon his father’s postings in the Royal Navy. After joining a local rugby club that was filled with current and former Naval personnel, he decided to join the Royal Navy, entering Britannia Royal Naval College as a Midshipman to begin training as a Warfare Office. Michael served in a variety of sea and shore appointments before being medically discharged. After leaving the service, Michael earned a BSc International Relations from the University of Plymouth and then moved to the United States where he now lives with his family.
