Sue Wright yn sôn am John Davies, gyda pwy does dim perthynas teuluol.

Disgrifiadau

John Davies came from the parish of Llangunllo in Cardiganshire who served and was killed in the First World War. He was initially exempted from serving due to being needed to help on his father's farm, but due to Conscription from the Military Service Act of 1916, was required to appear before the local tribunal to continue to be in a certifed occupation. His hearing was held on the 30th of June 1916, and was granted a further two months of temporary exemption, with no right of appeal. Enlisted in Brecon in the South Wales Borderers, but later transferred to the 15th Company of the Machine Gun Core which was attached to the 5th Division, which he joined later in early 1917. Unsure where he was initially posted for training. He was later posted to France and saw his first action in the Battle of Arras in which he fought in the Battle of Vimy, April 1917. No information on his personal experience, but general information shows that conditions in the trenches were poor. Due to being with the machine guns, this made him a prime target of the enemy. Sue is unsure when exactly he married, but the marriage produced a son. He has no known grave, but is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in France. His widow made a black silk armband which she wore after his death. Sue also has a picture of John in his uniform, probably from when he first enlisted due to the good condition of his uniform, and another of him with his wife. Also with her is a small black edged memorial card, very delicate, which Sue presumes his wife prepared in order to send out to people after his death. On one side is a Welsh verse, and on the other personal details such as the farm he lived on, Rhydgoch, Maesllyn, and he was reported missing in France on March 28th, 1918. John Davies was 23 years old.
