Thomas Williams joined up 25/02/1916 died March 1918.He lived at Y Foel, Cwmpenmachno. He was a cowman on the farm. He joined the Royal Artillery and was stationed at Fort Brockurst ,Hampshire, then No Point Battery on the Isle of Wight, initially deemed unfit for France. Things changed in 1916 and the 136 field battery was in Arras, Noitforth??, on the Belgium coast in dugouts in the sand which were collapsing around them. He was in the workshop repairing guns tractors and fixing damaged machinery. December 1917 he moved to Demi Ridge, here the battalion was split in two, he was facing the Germans. Water was sourced at the other side of the ridge, on 14/03/1918 he went along this dangerous route and on his return journey carrying water he was killed. He is buried in Rouan Cour???Thomas Williams is mentioned in the published History of his battalion. He was married to Gwen Roberts of Eglwysbach in Llanrwst registery 12/05/1917 whilst on leave.He ic commemorated in Eglwys Bach, Cwmpenmachno and on the North Wales Memorial Arch in Bangor.
