Taliaris Park near Llandeilo after a watercolour signed H Peel 1873 belonging to Carolyn Stephenson

Disgrifiadau

Taliaris is a fine Carolean house circa 1650 which was sold by Lord Robert Seymour in 1829 to Robert Peel of the Lancashire textile family. One of his cousins was Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister between 1834 and 1868.

Robert was succeeded at Taliaris by William Peel JP who married Anna Maria Lloyd and they had a large family. The eldest was Susanne born in 1839 who married David Long Price of Talley House in 1868.

Susanne's eldest bother was Herbert Peel born in 1840 and married to Mary Susanna Lee. They had four sons and two daughters including Vera. Herbert carried on the large farming estate but two of his sons were killed during the 1914-18 war and the youngest son, Humphrey, suffered the filancial effects of two wars. He died in 1951 and his only son Robin died young in 1954. The remains of the estate were broken up. The house itself is still standing (and was for sale in 1988 when this was written).

Vera died unmarried in 1982 aged 92 at her home in Vancouver Island where she lived comfortably for many years. She had been visited often by Carolyn (Stephenson) who kept her in touch with various relatives in the British Isles.
