Born in 1854 in Prenteg, Caernarvonshire, Wales, her father, Owen, was 47, and her mother, Catherine, was 39. She had one son from one relationship. She then married Griffith Thomas and they had nine children together. She died in March 1942 in Rhydyclafdy, Caernarvonshire, Wales, at the age of 88.
