Christine Evans' childhood home was above her father's veterinary practice in Newport. After a spell training as a physiotherapist, Christine switched to train as a medical secretary in the NHS. She met her husband at a twenty-first birthday party and when they got married they settled down in Redwick on the Caldicot Levels where Christine became Chair of the village Hall.
