Disgrifiad

Transcription: W: Saturday afternoon, you would see queues on Terrace Road and all the way around of all the children waiting for the Saturday matinee. It cost something like a ten pence, a four pence, a six pence or something; it was a multiple of two. Whether it was because the council were not very good at their counting, I don't know. *laughs* But there were poor children in the town, with high unemployment as it was then. They had come to see the great things that had been reeled on notices in the London cinemas and so on. Well, of course, there was this gold glitter run of a steel banister on the steps to get up to the B box. The B box was right at the top, so we all had a long way to walk, our legs getting tried, people getting a bit restless, good heart though really. Until you finally got on to the steps and you found that you were really in the theatre then. There was no doubt for me anyway; it was this cave of magic. Once you got to the doors, there was a special aura about the place; it captivated you no matter what the film was. Your day was made just getting in there! The woman would take your ticket and tear it in half, and you wondered where it was going to take you. *laughs* Sometimes it was not very good, and you were too near the front looking up almost vertically at the screen! It wasn't very good. *laughs*
