A leaflet: 'Opportunities for Volunteering in Wales', created by the Opportunities for Volunteering in Wales Committee. The committee was set up by the Secretary of State for Wales to allocate grants to voluntary and community groups. The leaflet includes the information for unemployed people on how to get involved in voluntary work and the closing date of 1 December 1982 to apply for funds.

South Glamorgan Intervol was a beneficiary of the fund with the 'International Year of Disabled People Committee' project. South Glamorgan Intervol was part of International Soroptimist Federation, and was active since 1980s. It then became registered as a Limited Company without share in 1991, working at Shand House, Fitzalan Place until it dissolved in December 1998.

Soroptimist International is the largest worldwide organisation for women in management and the professions, with more than 3000 clubs in over 120 countries. Soroptimists work on projects to advance human rights and the status of women. The organisation's main ideals are: the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all, equality, development and peace through international goodwill, understanding and friendship.

The Cardiff branch of the Soroptimists was established in 1950, as the Soroptimist Club of Cardiff and District. The founder President, Miss B. G. Sneyd, was presented with the group's charter at a dinner at the Royal Hotel, Cardiff, in the December of that year. The group's insignia of a chain and badge were presented by a member of the mother club at Swansea. Initially, the group comprised 29 members drawn mainly from the world of education. By 1982, this had increased to 48. The Cardiff club has been represented at almost every International Convention since 1950, and delegates have also attended Conferences of the Soroptimists Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. 4 members have held office on the Federation, and 5 have held regional office in South Wales. Soroptimists International Cardiff and District contributed a great deal to fund raising and community service within Cardiff.
