Disgrifiad

PC (25) Henry Edward Jones (1885-1959), born in Builth, was a carpenter and joiner by trade who joined the Breconshire Constabulary in August 1908. His first posting was to Ystradfellte, in the southern Brecon Beacons, where waterworks were being constructed to supply water to Neath. There he met his future wife, Elizabeth Ann Morgan (1889-1970). They married in 1911 and set up home in Brynmawr, where he was next stationed. A series of moves throughout Breconshire followed (Llangynidr, from 1913 to about 1920; Gilwern, about 1921; Hirwaun, about 1922; Brynmawr, about 1925; Defynnog, about 1926; and Talgarth, about 1927), until they returned again to Brynmawr in 1928, where he served as the Police Sergeant until he retired in 1938. The first photograph dates from his early years as a police officer. The second shows his Certificate of Service. The third is a cutting from a local newspaper (possibly the Brecon and Radnor Express) noting his retirement. The fourth photograph, which was dated '14.6.26' on the back, seems to have been taken outside Shire Hall in Brecon during the Assizes. Sergeant H. E. Jones is the police officer on the left of the picture.
