Charles Street Arts Foundation Annual Report March 1989- March 1990.
Thes hand-designed, monochrome cover has “CHARLES STREET ARTS” written in alternate bold and hatched capital letters, above a drawing of Charles Street during the Charles Street Carnival. Below this is written “Annual Report March 89 –March 90". There is a geometric border around the sides, and drawings of a clown’s head and balloons alternate across the top and bottom borders. Across the top is written “STREETS AHEAD” and “ONCE AGAIN” and at the bottom left “FREE”. There is a signature, starting with “Re”, at the bottom of the right border.
The Carnival's theme was 'Street’s Ahead' and was a celebration of the street’s recent refurbishment.
The first page introduction states: “This report covers a difficult year for the Foundation and includes activities organised between March 1989 – March 1990.
In June 1977, Cardiff Community Concern started the Charles Street Carnival as a community groups' alternative celebration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. This became an annual event and grew into a separate organisation, Charles Street Arts Foundation. The Foundation came to employ artists and staff but was founded and run by volunteers. Cardiff Community Concern, also founded and run by volunteers, was an alternative advice and information centre for young people, based in 58 Charles Street.
