A letter from The Civil Defence Welfare Committee, inviting Civil Defence volunteers to the opening performance of the opera 'Iolanthe', performed by the Civil Defence Operatic Society.

Music for the opera was composed by Arthur Sullivan and the libretto was written by W. S. Gilbert. The show was presented at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cardiff on 20 November 1944. The invitation is addressed to 'those friends who have rendered real service to Civil Defence Welfare'. The letter is from a scrapbook of items relating to amateur dramatic productions, compiled by Clifford James.
