Service for people with disabilities

A SERVICE to help support people with disabilities is set to start in Cardiff next month.

Disability Advice Project (DAP) has been offering advice, advocacy and support services from its Cwmbran base for 16 years.

But families in the capital will no longer need to travel to Cwmbran when the service opens its outreach clinic in Butetown, on January 23.

The organisation has fully trained volunteer caseworkers, all of whom have a lived experience of disability or caring responsibilities, and provides support to some 1,200 people each year.

DAP chairman Richard Berry said: "This is an exciting development for us. We opened our first outreach clinic in Abergavenny in October and that has been a huge success with every available appointment taken up.

"Now we are offering appointments every Friday at the Butetown Community Centre on Loudon Square.

"We are anticipating high demand. We are grateful for the financial help from the Volunteering in Wales Fund to expand our work but we do rely on donations from the public to keep our service going. People can donate through the purple Mydonate button on our website."
