In 1961, the remains of the killer wrecks, the SS Ethelwalda and the SS Brodland were finally removed from Aberavon Beach following the deaths of a number of children in the wreckages. During removal operations, it was discovered that the ss Brodland had been constructed from materials manufactured at the nearby Port Talbot steel works.
