A troop train ran into a local train, that was shunted on to a main line, and the express for Euston to the north ran into the wrecked carriages, when they caught fire. There is 162 Royal Scots among the dead up til now.’ June 6th – ‘Sunday School anniversary, good attendance. Collections for the day £5 16s 1d; last year £6 10s; on the tea £4 14s 5d. Mrs Roch said her son had joined the army and she had no one to manage the farm.’ January 8th ‘Llangwm women were successful last Sat. in reducing rice of butter in Haverfordwest market from 1s 8d to 1s 4d per pound.’ February 26th West Wales Guardian PERCY ADOLPH, WELSH REGIMENT, DIED February 17th at Merris. Percy Adolph, Private, Welsh Regiment Percy enlisted at Haverfordwest. Percy died on February 17th, less than 1 month after his arrival in France, aged just 18. He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Percy Adolf (holding the flag) leaving for the war from Goodwick with his comrades. County families of Pembrokeshire met at the Shire Hall with the local branch of the Red Cross. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Henry Owen (deputy Lord Lieutenant), and the principal speaker was Lady St. Davids, who said: “To help now, we need wisdom as well as willingness-stern determination to stick to the work we undertake-working is nobler than weeping, and a thousand times more useful. Every effort should be made to encourage Home Nursing and First Aid classes.
