It is not accurate to say the Taff Vale Railway closed in 1923, as a result of the Railways Act 1921, the Taff Vale ceased to exist as a separate company and became a constituent of the Great Western Railway, with ex Taff Vale routes operated by the G.W.R. The label illustrated is an example of the practice of the independent companies to ensure that passengers, and goods, travelled as much of their journey as possible on the lines of the company. In this case routing via Llantrisant meant that by travelling by TVR to Llantrisant minimised the mileage on the GWR from Llantrisant to Porthcawl rather than the greater GWR mileage if routed via Cardiff.
