Aerial view of the Tal-y-Cafn Bridge at the historical location of the lowest crossing point of the River Conwy prior to the construction of Telford's chain bridge and embankment at Conwy. During the 5/6th century Prince Maelgwn Gwynedd had an earth and timber castle located towards the top of the photo to control the crossing When this new bridge was built, part of the castle mound was quarried for its riverbed aggregate and the scars can be seen resembling a shallow letter 'w' at the top end of the bridge. there is still a lot of tree-covered mound remaining. To the left of the bridge can be seen the slipway where the ferry used to operate prior to the construction of the 'Bailey'-style bridge. Photo taken 21 December 2006.
