Disgrifiad

Photograph of Bedwellty Board of Guardians. Phil Prosser records: 'Walter Conway was an orphan and was brought up in the Workhouse. Later, he was very active in the Medical Aid Society. There are plaques to his memory in Park Place Chapel and Tredegar General Hospital.

The Workhouse stood where St. James' Park now stands. It was known as "The Spike" because of the straw used to stuff the mattresses, which would stick through.'. Taken 1900.

Hi...wondered if there are any names of individuals in this picture. Apparently my great great grandfather of the Bush Inn, Coedcae.was the oldest member of the Bedwellty board of guardians. He was also a member of the old local board and was chairman of that body upon the introduction of the local government act creating Ebbw Vale an urban authority. He was also chairman of the new authority and represented the South award. He was also chairman governor of the County school. Wondering if anyone has any more information. Thanks Gill
