Written from France to his father Hugh Hughes who at that time was tenant farmer/stockman at Fronfuno Farm on the estate of Eryl Arran in the ownership of Mrs Burton. By mentioning the mountains at the top of Lake Bala i.e. the Arran mountains, he tells his father he is in Arras, France.
