Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr opened in 2011 to serve the Rhymney Valley. It has 235 beds and full assessment facilities. It is the first hospital in S. Wales to have individual rooms for all patients. It is not a 24 hour A & E hospital, this function continues to be based at the Royal Gwent.
