The Mills of Wales — Wind, Water and Tidal Heritage: A Complete Survey of 84 Historic Mill Sites

Disgrifiadau

A comprehensive digital heritage survey of 84 historic wind, water, and tidal mill sites across Wales, covering every region from Anglesey to Monmouthshire. The survey documents 34 windmill towers, 40 watermills, and 10 tidal mill sites, with GPS-verified coordinates, individual historical articles for all 84 sites, and an interactive digital map.

Sites include working restorations such as Melin Llynnon (Wales's only working windmill) and Carew Tidal Mill (the only restored tidal mill in Wales), alongside Grade II and Grade II* listed structures, Scheduled Ancient Monuments, and mills of exceptional industrial and cultural significance including Aberdulais Falls, the Melingriffith Water Pump, Rossett Mill (1588), and the Anglesey tidal mill complex on Holy Island.

The survey covers the full range of Welsh milling heritage: the windmill-rich island of Anglesey; the water mill valleys of Gwynedd, Conwy, and Denbighshire; the upland mills of Ceredigion and Powys; the industrial sites of south Wales; and the tidal mill heritage of the Welsh coastline.
