Disgrifiadau

Letter from Edward Thomas to the poet Gordon Bottomley. Sent from Berryfield Cottage, Ashford, Petersfield, Hampshire. Archival ref: 424/1/1/1/10/89

My dear Gordon,
This is one to enclose
Doughty's head & the words of
'Aupres de ma blond', for I
am in a great muddle with
proofs, letters, carpentering,
gardening, reading, & an
additional journey to town for a
dinner with the celebrated
John Galsworthy
Newison
Garnett & Muirhead Bone
Masefield
Norreys Connell
L. Housman
Bullen
Jepson
& certain Daily News [illegible]; but I
had a continuous headache & was
glad to be back again though here the
wind will not cease. But I got on
with Bone a little & am to go to
his house when I like to see his
pictures. He spoke well of
Guthrie & your Hay. And that
reminds me that I have your friend
Scott to thank for a very nice
review of the Pocket Books.
At last I have settled all with
BERRYFIELD COTTAGE
ASHFORD
PETERSFIELD

Hutchinson, after consulting the
Author's Society & making further
amendments. I saw Mrs. Jefferies'
but she had callers & I didn't get a head
much. However, she was friendly & I
am to go again. I had a glorious
walk back from her through Haslemere
here, about 22 miles, ending at
midnight.
You would have liked to hear
Bone talking about Shannon &
Ricketts & John - especially
John with his long red beard, earrings,
jersey, check suits, & standing
six feet high, so that a cabman was
once too nervous to drive him. But
I can't talk a bit & I write now
because I see solid waves of toil
to be gone through before I can pretend
to be at ease again. So we salute
you and Emily and I slink
down a side street & mess along.
Ever yours
Edward Thomas
