My dear Gordon,
I go home today & have my new
found time to write. Can you come
on November 29? I can't easily
ask you before as I have not done
any reviewing in town & much has
accumulated, & I have to try to
get a short visit to Wiltshire in before
you come. I know so little about the
South Western - have never been in
Portsmouth - last I can't safely advise.
But I should think it would be least
troublesome to go to Waterloo from
Bournemouth & then take one of the
quicker trains to Petersfield ( e.g.
the 3.40) I can't compare
the costs. But the only cheap tickets
from London to Petersfield are from
Friday to Tuesday for 5/9. The
carriage you can order from
The Railway Hotel
Petersfield
They know Ashford there.
I didn't think you would save much
by travelling from Southampton to
Petersfield & back again to use
your tourist tickets & it would be
a great bother.
Let me know what you think.
It is a pity Guthrie will be far away.
But we shall be able to enjoy one
another.
I am distracted with letters &
notes & books, but my love to
you & Emily.
Ever yours
Edward Thomas
