New Swindon 10.viii.1900
My dearest friend,
I was out so much yesterday
that I had to put off writing until now,
an hour after your letter arrived (10a.m).
And now I have a perfectly bad pen , and
ink that speaks for itself. Barring these,
I have all that is to be desired. My grand
mother is over kind & has already shown me
a piece of the china set she is going
to give us when we set up house
perfectly. It is hand-painted with
a pattern of hawthorn leaves & flowers
in natural colours . The cups are
rather large but well shaped
very wide at at the top. She has also

Wootton Bassett for Sunday:
which I shall return, for I
can't stand a God-Almighty
church-3times-a day Sunday
in the country with Morgan looking as severe as any,
and you must not
share
jest
go more than a snail's pace
wear anything but black tie
I feel that I could write now if
I only had a quiet simple
sitting room
said that she would be very glad
to see you & the baby at any time.
What she wants at once (by
return to me) is a copy of the
photograph of you two . Father
showed her one but took it
away with a promise to
send it back (I think). Send
this on Sunday , along with
your Oxford photograph of
me , for which I will give
You another when I return
Exercise has had a good
general effect along with a
slight return of the local
symptom , so I am going

to use the protazol regularly
till it disappears again.
I have seen the old man.
Found him stitching an old
frock coat for use during
fishing. He is getting very
garrulous & is as jolly as
ever, especially when talking
of a really big fish he
caught recently , of which
he proudly shows the jaws
armed with teeth like this -
