My dearest friend,
Thank Mother very much for her delicious cake and apples.
Pleasures of the palate are not however for me just now. In fact no pleasures are possible except perhaps intellectual pleasures or [illegible], and the rather melancholy pleasure of my last days in Oxford. I doubt if I could enjoy company; anyhow I have work. This make one feel bitterly about the lack of sentiment (or - for I may do it an injustice - the apparent
sketched. My class will therefore be a third at best. By the way will you collect the 10 papers I sent and return them to me at once?
