My dearest friend,

I hope to return
by a train leaving here at
2.8p.m. on Monday , but
cannot be quite certain because
my packing is so exhausting.

By the way, the amount (£8.15.0)
of my bills I underestimated,
my landlady makes it up to

4 packing cases,
1 book box,
1 portmanteau,
1 hand bag,
& will therefore be expensive.

I have by the way some
Good news from Edwards about
the Schools, which I have not
time to tell.

P.S. I talked to the landlady
about my bill but could
produce no effects.

£10.0.0 owing to these reasons:

i) the barley water & lemon,
& soda water, which I
was ordered to drink has
amounted to a great deal

ii) she has charged several
shillings for use of cruet,
table linen, etc

iii) I have had my meals
alone lately because Maine

has had a friend up, & their
hours have been irregular;
consequently my expenses
were greater. Please
tell Mother this ; for I
must borrow of Maine in
order to pay my bill.

I shall take a cab
from Paddington because even
such moving about as in
packing fatigues me terribly.
