My dearest friend,
I dont want to go to Ashford tomorrow so please come back. Unless you arrange differently I shall meet the 5.30 here. I shall order meat and vegetables.
Edith has now done the whole house, including windows. She has been good.
I have been unusually un-depressed, considering my loneliness. But I find I can’t write when you are not here, except reviews - I wrote a few words on ‘The lost art of Reading’ this morning and sent them off; but the review was 3/4 quotation - I gave a string of characteristic sentences.
I was abominably dull at Mr Bowman’s; I mean that I was very stupid and told one story to his three and all bad (mine).
This afternoon I asked into Maidstone to buy something for Dorie.
Will you please ask mother to send it on to him tomorrow evening so that he will have it on Monday morning? Guess what it is.
I am annoyed to hear that Hugh hasn’t paid his dentist after getting me to write to say that he would pay.
The walk has made me very tired indeed, and I want to get back instead of going to the post with this parcel.
I am ever and wholly yours, sweet heart
Edward.
